Ingredient FAQS

Are Uncrustables® products kosher?

Because of ongoing supply chain pressures and rising demand, our team made the difficult decision to remove kosher certification from Smucker′s® Uncrustables® products. The change took effect in mid-2022.

Our product formulation is not impacted by the removal of kosher certification, and we don′t anticipate a noticeable change in the flavor or texture of Uncrustables® sandwiches — but continuing kosher certification would have kept us from putting out products fast enough to keep stores stocked. We apologize for any disappointment or inconvenience this change causes you and your family.

If you′re looking for kosher alternatives to our PB&J-style sandwiches, many Smucker′s® fruit spreads and Jif® peanut butter products are still certified kosher by the Orthodox Union.

What are the global supply chain issues causing this change?

Ongoing pressures across the global supply chain are impacting a number of our ingredients. One specific example is Kosher certified grapes, as there is currently a significant shortage of Kosher grapes in the marketplace.

This, along with increased demand for our products and continued challenges in sourcing our other ingredients, has resulted in the removal of Kosher certification for all Smucker’s® Uncrustables® products.

Are Uncrustables® products vegan?

Uncrustables® products are not considered vegan.

Do Uncrustables® products contain high fructose corn syrup?

What is the fastest way to thaw Uncrustables® Sandwiches?

We suggest keeping our products frozen until ready to thaw. Thaw for 30 to 60 minutes at room temperature for the best results and consume within 8 to 10 hours. We DO NOT recommend microwaving these sandwiches as the filling can become very hot and pose a safety hazard. Uncrustables® sandwiches should not be thawed and refrozen. Once thawed, Uncrustables® sandwiches may be refrigerated for up to 24 hours. However, refrigerating may dry out the bread. For best flavor and experience, we recommend eating within 8 to 10 hours of thawing.

Is it okay to eat frozen Uncrustables® sandwiches?

We would just recommend that you allow the bread to thaw first and also be careful as the peanut butter or chocolate flavored hazelnut spread can be very hard if chosen to eat frozen and could also pose a potential safety hazard.

Why shouldn’t you microwave Uncrustables® sandwiches?

Microwaves are notorious for uneven heating. This could create a safety hazard as the jelly/jam/fruit spread could become excessively hot liquid.
